Randall Pipkin Obituary

Randall "Randy" Mark Pipkin, 67, of Fernandina Beach passed away at home on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024.
Randy was born on May 29, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Jessie Gordon Pipkin and Clara Sue DeHart Pipkin Laurie (Charles Franklin). From Ohio, the family moved to California, then in 1967, Randy moved to Fernandina Beach with his mother and little sister. Through the years, he became a proud local and was part of the FBHS Class of 1975. After graduation, Randy attended the University of Florida and Florida Institute of Technology before joining the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, he graduated from Gulf Coast Community College with an associates degree in Nursing then went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Nursing at University of South Alabama.
Upon receiving his education in Nursing, Randy went on to work as a Registered Nurse at Bay Medical Hospital in Panama City Beach, Fla. After a few years, he decided to work closer to home, moving back to Fernandina Beach and working at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.
He is survived by his children Joshua, Annie and Emily Pipkin and Auriel Pipkin Weinberg (David,). His children remember him as an adventurous, charismatic and kind father who always pushed them to succeed.
Outside of becoming a father, one of Randy's proudest accomplishments was becoming a skilled U.S. Navy Deep Sea Diver and the time he spent serving his country as a salvage diver and as part of the Experimental Diving Unit. He spent his many years of service exploring the deep sea, traveling the world and having fun with his shipmates. In his recent years of retirement, Randy enjoyed fishing with his son, golfing with friends and attending Florida Gator football games.
In addition to his devoted children and grandchildren, Randy is survived by a loving sister, Robin Weaver (Ronnie), nephew Jared Weaver (Kirsten), niece Kristin Weaver Shook (Josh) and Aunt Mary Cox Powell (Terry).
A service to celebrate Randy's life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home, followed by military burial services at Bosque Bello Cemetery. The family warmly invites guests to dress casually and come for visitation at 10 a.m. prior to the service beginning. In honor of Randy's favorite time of the year, guests are encouraged to wear college sports, golf or fishing attire, or if you prefer, please consider wearing orange and blue that day.

Randy Pipken, was my first class petty officer on the US Praire, he was a gentle giant (I learned the gentle part much later in our friendship, haha). He was a great leader of our Dive Locker, work hard, play harder. I remember when I first got to the Praireit was in Bremerton Washington and it was the weekend, time for iniation, well the divers drank Jack Daniels and at the time I was 19, so me and Jack Daniels was not a common drink but a drink I did have once or twice before. Well the divers did a number on me that night and poor Randy physically had to carry my butt home. Threw me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Ah the good old days. Thanks for the good times Randy, you will be missed greatly. Peter "Teubs" Teubner, dive locker 1989-1992
