Randell Lee Sevier of Duncan, Oklahoma, departed this life at his home in Duncan, surrounded by family, to be with Jesus his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 11 days.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 11, at 10:30 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church of Marlow with the Reverend Lynn Parkhurst officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 P.M. in Moore Cemetery, Clarita, Oklahoma, under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.
Randell was born to Joseph Edward and Bertha Mae (Hicks) Sevier on March 27, 1938, in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. He grew up in Coal County where he attended schools in Centrahoma and Olney, Oklahoma. Randell came from a large family. He was the fourth of thirteen children. He helped the family by picking cotton, cutting broom corn, and cutting crossties. He spent the summer between his junior and senior years of school plowing fields around Springer, Oklahoma where he lived with his sister, Maelena and her husband Chester Woodell. He attended his senior year of school there as well, graduating in 1958.
After graduating, Randell moved in with his brother Leon and wife Midge in Comanche, OK. He then started working with Leon in the oilfield. Randell met and married Jeannie Chockpoyah in 1959. They then moved to Altus, OK, living there 17 years. He was employed by the City of Altus, starting his career as an electrician. He then moved his family to Duncan in 1976 where he was employed by Duncan Power and Light. Randell and Jeannie divorced in 1977.
Randell married Mary Esther Fraser in 1978 and moved to Hobart, OK where he was employed with Public Service of Oklahoma. The couple then moved back to Duncan in 1982 and Randell went back to work at Duncan Power and Light until his retirement in 2000.
Randell loved spending time with his family and especially loved spending time with his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his great-great-granddaughter. He loved being outdoors where he would fish, hunt and camp. He also enjoyed working in his beautiful garden, listening to bluegrass music, and playing guitar with his brothers and nephews. Randell also loved baseball which he played in high school, telling stories of his childhood and growing up on Boggy creek.
Faith was very important to Randell and he was a lifetime Baptist. He attended Lakeside Baptist Church for many years until the drive got too far as he got older and so he and Mary began attending Calvary Baptist Church in Marlow.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter, Donna Jean Ketchum of Lawton; son, Randell Wayne and wife Debra Kay Sevier of Duncan; sister, Thula Ann Kehnemund of Okeene, OK; grandchildren: Sarah and Marcus Reed of Walters, Beaux Ketchum of Lawton, Brandon and Jessie Sevier of Edmond, Kyle and Tiffany Sevier of Elgin; and a great-great-granddaughter.
