Randy Kent Chatterton surrounded by his family, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully early in the morning on Wednesday, July 16th at the age of 72.
Born December 31st, 1952, in Murray, Utah to Dee and Marie Chatterton.
Randy married Terry Kroll, the love of his life on June 6th, 1973, and were later sealed for time and all eternity. Their love story began when Randy went to go visit his friend Mary, Terry’s older sister. When Terry answered the door, Randy asked, Is Mary there? She said no. He looked at her and said, “You’ll do”. They were never separate from that moment on. They got married 6 days after Terrygraduated high school and went on to spend 53 beautiful years together. They were the perfect example of love and marriage. There was no doubt how they felt about each other and their family.
Randy grew up in Magna, Utah, running the fields, riding his motorcycle, andhaving many adventures with his friends. He had a love of life, of family, and of people. He completely lived up to the name Chatterton because he could talk to anyone and befriend them instantly.
He coached us kids through all our sports and was loved by all their teammates. As we entered school sports, he never missed a game. We were so fortunate that his job was flexible and allowed him to be at every game because they were often late in the afternoon.
As the grandkids came along, he too would come watch them play sports and dance. He was so proud of his grandchildren. He loved to cheer for them and talk to them after games/concerts, always gushing with pride.
Our dad was always genuinely happy for people’s successes. Whenever anyone got something new, he wanted to see it. Whenever they accomplished something, he wanted to hear all about it. He loved his family and taught his four kids to love each other and be best friends. He taught them how to work hard, to be kind and considerate of others and that family was everything. This love has carried on to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Randy loved music. He always had a new song or artist to show you. He listened to almost every genre and continued to discover new artists and songs that he would share with his kids and grandkids before the songs became popular. Randy loved car shows, motorcycles, ATV’s, camping, fishing, and the outdoors. We have so many wonderful memories up at Soapstone, camping, riding and sometimes risking our lives on crazy trails that there were no other options but to finish. He loved tinkering in the garage on projects, mostly motorcycles or Schwinn Aerodynes.
He loved teasing and playing with his grandkids and cherished every moment with his great grandkids. He always made an effort to spend time with each of them. As the grandkids got older, he wouldsend them texts of something he saw that reminded him of them and sometimes would call just to say hello. Each time he saw them in person it was a big hello, hug and into a conversation on what was going on in their lives or more updates on something he saw that reminded him of them. He had a personal relationship with each of them and they felt his love.
Randy is survived by his Wife, Terry.
