James Randall "Randy" Grimes, 71, a long-time Georgetown resident and attorney, passed away on November 15.

Randy was born and raised in Houston, the second son of loving parents and one of four close-knit siblings (Steve Grimes, Janet Hoffman Sealy, and Cynthia Warren). He spent his childhood summers at the family ranch near Junction, a place he cherished and always felt most himself.

He proudly attended the University of Texas, where he made lifelong friends, many of whom were his KA (Kappa Alpha) fraternity brothers. It was also where he met his first wife, Nancy Grimes. After graduating from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Randy and Nancy moved to Georgetown in 1981. Here, he established a family law practice and quickly became a respected and trusted member of the local legal community.

Randy and Nancy raised two daughters, Lacey and Kelly, whom he spoke about with pride at every opportunity. After their divorce, Randy welcomed his only son, Will, with whom he shared his intense love of Longhorn football and a deep interest in history. Randy was a gentle and loving father - his children never heard him raise his voice (maybe once or twice after an interception). He loved his children fiercely and was always there for them. Randy's four grandchildren called him "Tex," a nickname that captured both his affection for family and his deep roots in the Lone Star State.

Randy was passionate about UT football, the family ranch, and his Christian faith. Inspired by his grandfather and hero, longtime Congressman O.C. Fisher, Randy held a strong interest in public service and Republican politics. Early in his career, he served as the Williamson County Republican Party Chairman and on the LCRA Board of Directors, and over the years he has been instrumental in many successful campaigns of local officials.

As an attorney in Georgetown, Randy was known for his integrity, mentorship, and exceptional skill in the courtroom. He listened deeply, cared for his clients, and approached his work with a thoughtful steadiness that earned the admiration of judges and peers alike.

He cultivated deep and lasting friendships throughout Georgetown. Randy's easy warmth, kindness, and generosity left a mark on all who knew him, and he will be profoundly missed.

Laura Grimes is the surviving second wife of Randy. She represented a source of steadfast love and commitment to Randy and Will throughout the last 16 years they shared.

All are welcome to attend his celebration of life at First Baptist Georgetown on Sunday, November 23, at 3 p.m. The church will begin accepting flowers at noon that day.
