John Randolph 'Randy' Hollums went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, March 30, after a short battle with an aggressive cancer. Randy was a man of unsurpassed loyalty, integrity, faith, and loved his family dearly.
Randy Hollums was born on April 15th, 1943, and spent most of his life in Floydada. He and his wife, Teresa, raised two wonderful sons, Jay and D.G. Hollums. Randy graduated from Floydada High School before receiving a B.S. degree from West Texas State University. He enlisted with U.S. Air Force in 1966 and served 5 years, achieving the rank of captain. During the 64th Texas Legislature, Randy served as the administrative aide to former State Senator Ray Farabee. Randy entered Law School in 1971 at Texas Tech School of Law and graduated in 1974 with his Doctorate of Jurisprudence.
In 1974, Randy began practicing law in Floydada, and that was just the start of what would become a nearly 40 year career serving as City Attorney, District Attorney of the 110th Judicial District, and District Judge of the 110th Judicial District.
Randy served as vice-president of the Floydada Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the American Heart Association for Floyd County, President of the Floydada Rotary Club, State President of the Rotary Club, member of The Prosecutor Council of the State of Texas and served as President, Vice-president, and Chairman of the Legislative Committee of the Texas District & County Attorney's Association. Randy was also a District Commissioner of the Comanche Trail District of the Boy Scouts of America, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and President of the Good Sam's Club. Randy also coached debate for FHS, with great success.
A lifelong United Methodist, Randy was a lay leader and Sunday School teacher (35 years) in the First United Methodist Church of Floydada. He also served at the general United Methodist church level as the the Northwest Texas Conference Lay Leader, as the Conference Director of Lay Speaking, and as a member of the Board of Directors for Mount Sequoia Retreat Center.
Randy was an avid camper and fisherman, who loved traveling the country in his motorhome. He never missed any of his sons' high school events, never.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Edwina and Duncan Hollums and his son, Jay Hollums. Randy is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Teresa Hollums, and his son, D.G. Hollums (Tiffany) and granddaughter, Gracie, all of Santa Fe, NM. He is also survived by his sister, Harryette Purvis of Cisco, her daughter, Christy Stone (Kevin) and their sons Hayden and John Brady Stone of Plano, and his daughter-in-law Sheila Hollums Bates (Steven) and sons StJohn and Soren of Greensburg, PA.
