It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Randy Leonard Scheuermann Sr., who passed away peacefully, surrounded by all of his children, on December 1st, 2021, at the age of 73. Randy was born on June 3, 1948 to John and Mathilda Scheuermann. He grew up in New Orleans where he became a graduate of St. Aloysius, class of 1966. Randy's extraordinary love for his family was the defining pillar of his well-lived life. His contributions and service to his community are significant, admirable, and truly appreciated. Randy is remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and brother who lived a life of service. He protected our great nation by serving as a member of the United States Army. In addition, he protected and served his community as a law enforcement officer for over 50 years. His fifty-two years of dedication to law enforcement included years of service as a police-officer in the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, New Orleans Police Department, and St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office. In 1983, he was named the Jefferson Parish Deputy of The Year. In 1989, he was the Valedictorian of the NOPD Academy. Throughout his years serving our communities, he received countless letters and medals of recognition, achievement, & commendation. Randy's greatest loves were his God, his family and his country. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his admiration for them was evident in all that he accomplished.
Some of his favorite hobbies included: Visiting Disney World, playing golf, reading books, and watching movies. However, his most passionate hobby was playing baseball. He played with the Diamond Dreams Over 40 Baseball League of Louisiana from his 40th birthday until the age of 71. During this time, he was awarded The Iron Man of The League Trophy for seasons of 2015 and 2016.
As an avid sports fan, Randy loved cheering on the New York Yankees and the New Orleans Saints. However, he was most joyful when he supported the one team that he loved the most -"Team Scheuermann." A team that he built strong, a team that will always win due to the unyielding love, support, integrity, and strength it was built upon.
Randy's most cherished life moments were those he spent celebrating with his loving family that includes his five children: Heidi Thiel (Frank), Randy Scheuermann Jr. (Martha), Brandi Cicotte (John), Heather Soliday (Kevin), Richard Scheuermann (Kaylin); eleven grandchildren: Kevin Jr., Kaitlynn, Dylan, Jacob, Aliana, Ryan, Conner, Skylar, Karson, Dax, and Ezra. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Darlene Mire Scheuermann, and parents John and Mathilda Scheuermann.
Along with his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother, Glenn Scheuermann.
To honor our precious Dad's memory, a celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Mothe Funeral Home located at 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA. Visitation will be from 12-3PM with Mass following in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Dad's favorite charity, The Wounded Warrior Project.
