With great sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of a dear father, brother, and friend, Randy Shively on June 8, 2024, at the age of 51.
James Randy Shivley was born in
Saint Louis, Missouri on December 26, 1972, the son of James and Mildred (Oaks) Shivley. Randy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. His passion for the military continued throughout his life, leading him to a career as a pipefitter at the John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis.
Randy was a dedicated and hard-working individual who always put the needs of others before his own. His commitment to his country and fellow servicemen and women was unwavering, and his service at the VA Medical Center was a testament to his dedication to helping those in need. Randy was also a member of the Du Quoin American Legion Post 647, VFW Post 513, Elks Lodge 884, and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 160.
Randy will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and sincere loyalty to his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his three precious daughters- Avery Shivley, Cameron Shivley, and Reese Shivley, all of Du Quoin; brother- Terry (Kathy) Gibbs of
Poplar Bluff, Missouri; sister- Freda (Steve) Brandibus of Energy; sister- Connie Shivley of South County, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; and his special father figure- David O'Rourke of Du Quoin.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Janice Smallwood, sister- Ruth Shivley, and brother- Jerry Shivley.
Military honors will be rendered at 4:30pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home to honor Randy's service and sacrifice. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home, located at 11 S. Hickory Street;
Du Quoin, Illinois 62832. A private burial will take place at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. We invite all family, friends, and fellow service members to come together to help comfort the family during this difficult time. Randy leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, kindness, and love. He will be greatly missed and will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him.
Randy's unwavering love for his girls was evident in every aspect of his life, and he took immense pride in watching them grow and flourish.
