Randy Scott Thomas, while surrounded by his family at home, left this Earth to be with our Lord on July 14, 2024. He fought a long valiant battle with his multitude of health issues over far too many years. Randy was blessed with a heart transplant that allowed him to continue his journey for twenty more years with our family, friends and community. We are thankful for the young hero and his family who generously gave such a wonderful gift. We thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors who have assisted him on his journey.
Randy was born October 11, 1961, to Patricia Ann (Weaver) and Robert Barnes Thomas. He was welcomed home by his loving brother, Robby Thomas and his two uncles, Robert and Douglas Weaver. They seemed to entertain and unconditionally love each other from the beginning. He loved that his mother and her friends prayed over him and his friends. He built a lifetime of wonderful memories with his father whom he considered to be his very best friend.
Randy married the love of his life, Pamela Gail (Blackmon), on December 29, 1990. He was welcomed into Pam's family immediately. Randy and Pamela loved when each family had gatherings. (The past few years, Randy missed too many because of frequent monthly stays in and out of the hospital.) Randy was the proudest of his two sons, Zachary and Jacob Thomas. In March 2017, he accepted our daughter-in-love, Miranda Morris, into his family. He thought Zachary had made a perfect choice in her. We have two beautiful grandchildren, Rylie Ann and Hudson Barnes who have filled us with joy. He was sad that he would not be here to finish being a part of the next phases of each of our lives. He felt that he knew that we would continue to make good choices and be successful or at least we would be able to figure it out without him.
As a teenager, he became an employee of Toms Food, where he worked along with his brother, Robby, and Uncle Doug. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his coworkers and came home in a happy mood and ready to be actively doing other things in the MEN area. Randy attended his beloved Alma Mater, at Mildred. His Eagle friends were very familiar with his humorous ways, and he never bored his teachers with his shenanigans. He made a lifetime of memories with his teammates and loved anything to do with sports. As an adult he returned to be a school board member in the footsteps of his father, uncle and cousins. He could be found at times working the ball fields getting them ready for games, coaching or yelling from the sidelines. Randy took great honor in being a volunteer fireman in the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department and spent many years as the chief. Later, he worked on the Benda Ranch, where he could continue to build experiences outdoors. He was allowed to mow and plow with his tractor, clear brush, landscape and work with a wide variety of animals along with some that were exotic. He enjoyed riding around in the buggy and experiencing the lake. He loved taking his coon dogs on hunts. He enjoyed roping and watching rodeos. It broke his heart to give it all up.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Patricia Ann (Weaver)Thomas, Grandparents: Hazel and Sam Thomas, Grandparents: Douglas Weaver and Nezzie Mahoney, Uncles: Robert Weaver, Douglas Weaver, Sammy Thomas, Gaylon Crawford, Aunt: Patsy Crawford.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law: Robby and Teresa Thomas. His father in law and mother in law: Jerry and Linda Blackmon Sr., brother in law and sister in law: Jerry and Rhonda Blackmon Jr., sister in law: Kimberly Marshall, nephews and nieces: Sam and Nikki Marshall Jr, Stayton and Lockie Thomas, Lee and Brittany Grounds, Jasper and Amanda Marshall, Dylon and Raegan Blackmon, and his great nieces and nephews: Langston and Leighton Grounds, Harper, Beau, Codi, Tatum, and Josie Marshall, Lane Thomas and Stoneleigh Blackmon.
Pallbearers are his nephews: Sam Marshall Jr., Stayton Thomas, Lee Grounds, Jasper Marshall, Dylon Blackmon along with three of his cousins: Mark Thomas, Darrell Waller and Jeff Weaver.
We thank Angels at Home for the special care that they gave to Randy and Bristol Hospice Pathways for assisting him during his brief time at home. We would like to thank the special care that he received from his many nurses and doctors with UTSW, especially his transplant team along with his Kidney team at Davita, especially Dr. Shastri and his favorite nurse, Janie.
The family would appreciate your consideration in becoming an organ and tissue donor to be a hero for someone else.
In lieu of flowers or plants please consider donating in his honor to the Eureka Methodist Church, Mildred Education Foundation, Mildred Little League, Mildred Booster Club or to the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department. These all hold a special meaning to Randy.
