Randol Scott Van Weelden was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on October 17, 1951, to Henry "Hank" and Betty (Notting) Van Weelden. He was raised alongside his sister Sandra in Pella. He attended elementary school at Pella Christian, and Pella High School graduating in 1969.
He was married to Karen Van Waardhuizen in 1972 and blessed with three children: Matthew, Katherine, and William. Randy met Gail Adams Force through mutual friends in 2007, and they were married in November of 2018.
Randy worked with his father from a young age in the concrete business, and he always said he carried on his dad's legacy in concrete construction. Some of his favorite projects were the COC complex, additions to the Pella schools, Heartland Reformed Church, and a wide variety of private businesses. Always a hard worker, even in his down time Randy loved to build and tinker. His "sawdust" therapy was building fine furniture for all his family. He built everything imaginable from China cabinets to baby cribs. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, football, and going on drives or walks through the timber or along a beach with Gail.
Randy will be remembered for his ability to tell a story. Being a living encyclopedia and a bit ornery were great assets when telling stories.
Randy passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2025. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Gail; children and step children: Matthew (Teresa) Van Weelden, Katie Lutton, Will (Jenny) Van Weelden, Jennifer (Mike) Merrill, Jacob Force, and Allison (Alfredo) Contreras; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Isaac, Hannah, William, Ben, Ruby, Olly, Alena, Weston, Elijah, Noah, and Oaklyn; sister, Sandra Arendt; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
