Obituary of Randy Carlton Wright
LEXINGTON- On Thursday, July 14, 2022, in the middle of a life filled with adventure, family, love and dreams, Randy Carlton Wright quickly and unexpectedly left his home to be with the King that he loved.
Randy loved a good cup of coffee, an open Bible, and a beautiful place to meditate. People joining him there would find meaningful conversation and often many laughs. He was a master carpenter and problem solver, and loved soaking in nature. Some of his most cherished memories included the "good" hunts. He loved the smell of horses, leather, and fresh hay. Introducing his grandchildren to the world of horses brought his heart great joy.
His sense of adventure took him hitchhiking to the Rocky Mountains at 17-years-old, shortly after meeting Jesus. Four years later, he took his new bride, Barbara, the love of his life, and told her he wanted to give HER the Rocky Mountains.
The memories he made with his family are endless, from slicing watermelon beside the pool, building the grandest gym set to be found, porch-sitting and wave riding with his grands at the beach, to cooking for his family, and so much more. He loved the word of God more than his breath and found great pleasure in supporting many ministries around the world. We wish you could have known this great man, because those that knew him found themselves changed by his pure presence and love for Jesus.
His compassion and love for First Americans led him and Barbara to Ronan, Montana where they shared Jesus with new believers and old, and were surrounded by a strong circle of men and women who became lifelong friends. Upon their return, he and his wife founded Helping Hands Adult Day Care in Cayce, which was later joined by HopeBridge at the Hollies, and HopeBridge at the Oaks. Here, his dedication to God's service and leadership of his family, led to 36 years of loving and caring for geriatric and young adults with special needs.
He was devoted to and cherished his wife, Barbara Taylor Wright. He fiercely loved his children, Melody Redding, of Gilbert SC, Carlie Green, of Columbia, SC, and Levi Wright, of Lexington SC. The joy of his heart was his grandchildren, Savanah Redding, Destiny Wright, Myah Wright, Judah Wright, Isaac Redding, Autumn Redding, Eli Green, and Caden Green. He also leaves behind sisters Dottie Keisler and Debbie Leaptrott, and a brother Bill Wright. Randy is predeceased by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. and Dorothy Wright of Lexington.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at The Harvest Church, 4865 Sunset Boulevard in Lexington. Graveside committal will follow immediately after at Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. The family will receive visitors from 5 – 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. A live stream of the funeral service can be found .
In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to or . The family asks that when you think of Randy you remember how the love of Jesus shined through him and touched your life.
