Ray Babcock, 68, passed away at 4:28am on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 21, 1957, in Quonset Point, Rhode, Island, the son of Gene Ray Babcock, Sr. of Bethalto, and the late Shirley (David) Babcock. In addition to his dad, Ray is survived by two daughters and sons in law: Ashley and Ross Williams of Kansas City, Missouri, Felecia and Roger Ernst of Edwardsville, a son: Tyler Babcock of Dorsey, four grandchildren: Gabriella, Elliana, Lincoln, L.T., three sisters and brothers in law: Donna and John Bailey of Bethalto, Debbie and Kevin Green of Channahan, Illinois, Sandy and Jay Harlan of Bethalto, a brother and sister in law: Mike and Carol Babcock of Bethalto, his girlfriend: Andrianna Argyropoulos of Moro, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Ray was formerly employed at Great Central Lumber and was a contractor by trade. He was a jack of all trades, enjoyed history, enjoyed collecting coins along with other antiques, writing poems and was a published author. He loved reading his bible, loved God, painting, baseball, softball, and Raiders football. He formerly delivered Meals on Wheels during the Thanksgiving season. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights.
He was preceded in death by his mom.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm until time of services at 6:30pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Pitchford Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to ARC William BeDell or to the Community Hope Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
