Ray Duncan passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on September 28, 2023 at the age of 86.He was born in Dixon, Kentucky but moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with his family in 1941. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Vivian Duncan, his sister Phyllis Duncan Hall, his brother Wilbur Duncan and 2 grandchildren, Dobbie and Isiah Jones.
He attended George Washington High School where he was a three sport varsity letterman, voted 1955 Senior Class President and earned the nickname "Froggy". After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Duke and they had two children. He worked in the manufacturing industry as a supervisor until he retired in 2000.
Ray and Shirley moved to Chesapeake, Virginia in 2015 to be close to their daughter and granddaughter. Ray became a "Grandpa" at a young age and therefore shared a special bond with his firstborn grandchild and namesake, Somer Rae Wilson.
Not only did Ray love playing sports, he enjoyed coaching his daughter's softball teams in Avon, Indiana. He also enjoyed woodworking and made beautiful wood pieces and furniture.
He is survived by his bride of 68 years, Shirley (Duke) Duncan, sister, Sue Duncan Phillips; son,Timothy Ray Duncan; daughter, Tami Duncan Jones; Five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
As per his wishes, he will be cremated with no service. Condolences may be made to the family at www.grahamfuneralhome.com or sent to Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
