In Loving Memory

It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Hobert Ray Higginbotham of Newellton, Louisiana, born September 20, 1934, on Lake Bruin Island, Tensas Parish, LA to the union of Frances Ella Barfield and William Hobert Higginbotham and entered his Heavenly home September 15, 2025. Ray lived a life defined by service, independence, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Ray served his country with honor and dignity. After completing his military service, he returned home and built a life rooted in hard work and self-reliance, becoming a successful self-employed businessman. His dedication, resilience, and spirit were admired by all who knew him.

Ray was united in marriage to Amy Virginia "Jenny" Haywood on May 25, 1961. Together, they built a loving home and shared over five decades of marriage, laughter, and unwavering support. Jenny preceded him in death on June 28, 2014, and her memory remained a constant presence in Ray's heart.

Ray is survived by his children: Scott and his wife Lynn of Johns, Mississippi; Barry and his wife Betty of Franklin, Tennessee; Kristi and her husband Jay Roy of Longview, Texas; and Jill and her husband Michael of Vancleave, Mississippi. He was a devoted father whose love and guidance shaped the lives of those he held dear.

He was also a proud grandfather to Andy Higginbotham, Sam Higginbotham, Jayden Mount, Riley Higginbotham Ferrari, Lainey Johnston, and Mia Monsour, and a great-grandfather to Bruin.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenny; his grandson, Andy Higginbotham; his mother, Frances Barfield Higginbotham; Hobert Higginbotham; his paternal grandparents, Marsh and Myrtle Higginbotham; his maternal grandparents, H.B. and Annie Barfield; his sister, Cloteal Stockstill; and his brother, Paul Higginbotham.

Known for his quiet wisdom, dry humor, and steadfast loyalty, Ray found joy in the simple pleasures-whether fishing on Lake Bruin, spending time with family enjoying the lakeview at The Camp, watching and critiquing football, tending his garden, or sharing stories with family and friends. His presence was a steady comfort, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Pallbearers are Sam Higginbotham, Winn Blanche, Patrick Glass, Pat McClain, Steven McClain, and William McDonald.

Honorary pallbearers include Billy Barfield, Parnell Barfield, George Cooper, Sonny Kifer, Milford McVay.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Newellton First Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery. All under the Direction of Dennard First National Funeral Home Winnsboro, LA.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to First Baptist Church, Newellton, LA.
