Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 21, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Ray John Knott, 81, who passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at his residence in Cecilia.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Friday from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm.
A rosary, led by Brad Thomassee, will be prayed at 11:00 am on Friday morning.
Father Gregory Cormier will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be his daughters, Shelly Pontiff and Lisa Lanclos.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Ray was one of 13 children and was raised on the family farm in the community of Bayou Portage. He was a 1960 graduate of Arnaudville High School, and immediately after graduation, he went to work for Barge Dredging Co. for a number of years. He then opened Ray's Lounge (aka Knott's Landing), where he will always be remembered by his many customers, especially his younger crowd to whom he was a mentor and father figure. He closed his bar in order to spend more time with his children and kept up his passion for crawfishing. After retirement, Ray enjoyed his morning visits with the "coffee club" at Diesi's Little Capital where he made several lifelong friends.
Ray will always be remembered as a very kind soul, always willing to help anyone in need. His family was his absolute pride and joy, and he will forever remain our family's hero.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ginger H. Knott; daughters, Lisa Lanclos (Randy), Shelly Pontiff (Patrick), Tammy Knott; sons, Mitchell Knott, and Joshua Johnson (Charie); brother, Harris Knott; sister, Velma K. King; grandchildren, Brandon Lanclos (Holly Taylor), Heather Boudreaux (Cody Guidry), Kendra McKinney (Phillip), Seth Pontiff (Leah), Cole Johnson (Kameron Brasseau), Gavin Milby (Miranda), Braylen Johnson (Mackenzie LeBlanc), Chase Milby (Christian Romero), Cicely Knott (Trevor Bertrand), and Amy Pontiff; 15 great grandchildren with 3 more on the way, and a host of nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Earline Knott.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ashton and Yvonne Taylor Knott; his daughter, Michelle Milby; great grandson, Rhys Baudoin; brothers, Alvin and his wife, Pat, Leroy "Black" and his wife, Katy, A.J., Leus "Dago", Harold and his wife Martha, Herman and his wife Dorothy, Rogers, and Carol; sisters, Genevieve "Jan" McConnell and Joyce Disotell, and her husband Irvin; and his brother-in-law, Hugh King.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be his two sons, and his brother.
A special thank you to Hospice of Acadiana, without whose compassionate care and total support, we could not have had Ray home with us in his final days.
