Ray Curtis Moretz, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Ames Family Hospice, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 26, 1935, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Millard and Julie (nee Carico) Moretz. Ray lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of family and friendship.
On March 22, 1958, Ray married the love of his life, Geraldine Sarah Ann (née Kempton), beginning a beautiful journey of partnership and devotion that spanned more than six decades.
Ray began his career at Ford Motor Company as a forklift driver and later worked in shipping. With 33 years of loyal service, he retired in 1991. His work ethic and commitment left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
A true family man, Ray cherished time spent camping and traveling in his camper, creating countless memories with those he loved. After retirement, he and Geraldine embraced the sunshine and serenity of their cherished winter home in Punta Gorda, Florida, where they spent many peaceful winters together.
For over 30 years, Ray was a familiar and friendly face at Jaime's Flea Market in South Amherst, where he worked as a dedicated vendor. He built a community through his work, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime and becoming a well-known and beloved presence.
Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Geraldine; his children, Brenda Shelton, Connie (Vincent) Miksa, David (Rhonda) Moretz, and Darryl Moretz; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great source of pride and joy.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral center, with Dr. Buck Wilford of Brunswick Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
