Ray Allen Proffitt Sr.

Ray Allen Proffitt, age 84, of Knoxville passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022. He was a Christian who had a pure and true faith of God. He attended Roane State Community College and later joined the U.S. Navy Air in Pensacola, Florida. An avid businessman, he cofounded Proffitt and Sons Construction Company in 1977 and was active there until his retirement in 2016. Ray was a family man and loved spending time with his extended family and friends. He loved outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, camping, and golf and attending sporting events. He also loved to travel and had seen much of the world. He was an animal lover, especially his hunting dogs and later his beloved Shih Tzus. He was quietly benevolent, many people called him friend. He will be missed by family, friends, employees and business associates. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, JE Sonny and Charlotte Proffitt, and his brother, Larry Blue Proffitt. Ray is survived by his fianc e Paula Thompson, son Larry Jones (Linda); daughter, Kathy Rhyne (Reid) and son Ray Proffitt Jr.; sister, Beverly Worley Williams (David), 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm Friday, August 26, 2022 at Rose Funeral & Cremation-Broadway. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Russell Young officiating. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 am Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11:00 am graveside service.
