It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ray Arthur Scherf, who departed this life on March 23, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on January 3, 1942, Ray lived a fulfilling life characterized by dedication to his family, his work, and his country.
Ray was a proud veteran who served in the National Guard from January 12, 1964, until his honorable discharge on January 11, 1970, achieving the rank of Private First Class. His commitment to service was a foundational element of his character, shaping the values he imparted to those around him.
In the realm of construction, Ray was an accomplished excavator, known for his strong work ethic and integrity. As a self-employed operator, he took pride in the quality of his work, earning the respect and trust of his clients and peers alike.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia Scherf, and their two devoted children, daughter Holly (David) Davala, and son Randy (Jen Harsh) Scherf. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Olivia Scherf, Mikaela Davala, and Gabe Davala, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Scherf. Ray was preceded in death by parents, Howard and Thelma Scherf, and brother, Dennis Scherf.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, beginning at 10 am at Gerner-Wolf Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, OH 43452, until the time of funeral service at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Sackett Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Ottawa County.
