He was born in Ellsworth, Pennsylvania, on March 14, 1935, to the late Elmis Summers and Lillian Ables Summers.
He had a varied career, including serving in the Army's 3rd Armor Division, working as a police officer, and retiring from Union Carbide in Anmoore. Ray was a dedicated member of the United Evangelistic Mission Church. He cherished family gatherings, reading his Bible, watching good Westerns, fishing, and scrapbooking. He never knew a stranger. He loved telling stories about his childhood and the adventures he had living in Detroit and Clarksburg in the 50's, "because you don't just live in Detroit for 33 years " He also loved sitting outside watching wildlife and cars go by. He loved his family deeply and "gladly would have went back to prison for any of them".
Ray is survived by his sister Sharon (Bailey) Pratt; his five children: Ray Summers Jr. of Lost Creek, Michele Hitt and her husband Ricky of Lost Creek, Theresa Summers and her significant other Lonnie Flanagan of Clarksburg, John Summers of Salem, and Frances Wright of Shinnston.
He is also survived by six grandchildren: Desiree Hitt and significant other John Rebrook of Philippi, Samantha Hitt and her significant other Christopher Gonzalez of Bridgeport, Stephanie and husband Perry Hudkins of Lost Creek, Adam Hitt and wife Meshaila Hitt of Lost Creek, Christen Saab and fiancé Garrett Heskett of Venice, Florida, and Katharine Cunningham of Clarksburg.
Additionally, Ray leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Dominic Hardman, Layla Gonzalez, Luke & Malaki Hudkins, Liliana & Amari Hitt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma (Beckman) Summers, his son Ray Tillett, and three sisters, Annie Cain, Louise Lembach and Helen Meadows.
He will be greatly missed by all.
