Obituary published on Legacy.com by Massie Funeral Home on Feb. 4, 2024.
Ray Thomas Terry was a deeply loved husband, father, brother, friend, and most importantly servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He lived a life of conviction, purpose, and vision, whose sole intention was to love the Lord His God with all of his heart, mind, body, soul, and strength. He cherished his family, as a wonderful provider and protector, and his love for Christ motivated his service to others in his community, through the Gospel of Deliverance Ministry church and radio broadcast ministry, and sharing the Gospel and love of Jesus Christ to whoever he met.
Ray was born October 27, 1950 to the union of the late Johnny Terry and Cora Terry in
Mounds, IL. His desire to better his life and explore opportunities outside of Mounds led him to join the United States Army at the age of 17. While in the military, he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. After completing his tours, he continued service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he met his soul mate, Specialist 4th Class Anganetta Terry. Due to service connected disabilities, he was honorably discharged from the US Army. After his discharge, Ray felt that the best place to raise their three beautiful daughters at that time was in his hometown of
Mounds, IL. In 1980, Ray and Anganetta relocated their family to Mounds to continue building their lives together.
Over the next 12 years, Ray and Anganetta would welcome 3 more children. While living in Mounds, Ray was employed at the Marion Penitentiary and later at the United States Postal Service.
In 2005, Ray accepted the Lord's calling and along with his wife, founded the Gospel of Deliverance Ministries in 2007. Ray passionately embraced his calling with the purpose of teaching the Word of God free from the customs and traditions that so often diluted the Word of God.
Ray leaves to honor his legacy his loving wife of 48 years Anganetta Terry, and his 5 children, Miyohnna, Coraviece, Claudeliah, Sehgarra, and Jhemarien; his five brothers Owen Terry, Sr, Michael Terry, Johnny Terry Jr, James Terry, and Bobby; his 5 sisters Marshallene McClendon, Linda Sloan, Kay Suggs, Allene Reed, Phyllis Jackson; eight grandchildren Zadeya, Jade, Micah, Kambriyah, Eden, Asha, Madison, and Sehgarra,
Jr, and a host of aunts, uncles, in-loves, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Terry, mother Cora Terry, mother-in- love Claudia Champion, son Raheem Terry, brother Willie Terry, sister Toni Terry, nephews, Terrell Lane, Michael Terry Jr, Lionel Phillips, niece Yumeko Jackson.
