Raymond L. Atkinson, Sr., 87, of Prince George, formerly of Hopewell, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. Born August 17, 1936, he was the son of the late Edward and Emma Keaton Atkinson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Forsen, Eunice and Virginia Atkinson; and brothers, Mack and Alfred Atkinson.

Raymond worked for 41 years as an electrician at Smurfit Stone and served in the United States Army Reserves for eight years. He loved duck hunting and fishing and enjoyed re-enacting the Civil War for 20 years with the 44th regiment. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann Millis Atkinson; son, Raymond L. Atkinson, Jr. (Lori); three grandchildren, Steven Atkinson (Leah), Kimberly Atkinson Petree (Josh), Ray Howard; four great-grandchildren, Jason & Madelyn Atkinson and Hayden & Kylie Petree; brother, James Atkinson (Wilma); and other extended family members. The family would like to thank the Gentiva Hospice team members for the tender care and assistance they provided Raymond in his time of need.

Per Raymond’s request, there will not be any services, however, please leave a condolence online at www.ealvinsmall.com. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
