Raymond Bahto, 94, of Berkeley Heights, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in South Orange, NJ, on May 30, 1931, Raymond was the son of Victoria (née Najarian) and George Bahto. He was a longtime resident of South Orange and Clinton before settling in Berkeley Heights.
Following his graduation from high school, Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and built a successful career as an accountant and controller, working for Coca-Cola and Tetley Tea.
Raymond lived a life dedicated to service, both professionally and in his community. He served as a Councilman in the townships of South Orange and Clinton, volunteered for nearly 40 years with both the South Orange and Clinton Rescue Squads, and was an active member of the American Legion Post 433 in New Providence. A devout Catholic, he was also a longtime and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus.
Raymond was known for his sharp wit, legendary sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to health and fitness. He firmly believed that a healthy diet and regular exercise, including jogging, running, and walking, were essential to a long and fulfilling life. His deep faith, selfless service, and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Above all, Raymond will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and father-in-law, proud grandfather, and incredible friend. His legacy of kindness, strength, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Louisa (née Dellanno) Bahto whom he married on September 14, 1958. His loving daughters Louisa Grossman and her husband Terrence and Rachele Price and her husband Alan, his cherished grandchildren, Alexandra Grossman and her husband Dr. Andrew Guarnaccia, Alton Grossman, Jackson Price and Vaughan Price.
