Raymond Broadhurst Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roberts & Sons Funeral Home - Foxborough on Feb. 13, 2025.
Raymond Anthony Broadhurst, 71, beloved and wonderful husband, brother, son, uncle, and friend passed away unexpectedly February 2, 2025 with his wife Charlene and family by his side. He was hospitalized for a short time and put up a valiant effort before being called home. He lived life fully bringing his wonderful lighthearted sense of humor to everything he did, finding joy in every moment. Ray was a gentle, kind, compassionate, and authentic person with a positive inner spirit, a big heart and a good soul. His unassuming personality and innate goodness was part of why he was so loved.
Born in New Bedford, MA and raised in Acushnet, MA, he attended St. Francis Elementary School and Bishop Stang High School graduating in 1971. Because of his love of cars, he attended Automotive School. He went on to graduate in 1976 from Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Ray worked initially for the Genrad Company before moving in 1979 to The Foxboro Company as a Test Engineer, initially at the East Bridgewater plant, retiring after 42 years from the Foxboro location. He met his wife Charlene of 38 years at work in Foxboro and they both retired together on March 31 2021. On their last day, they walked out hand in hand to start new adventures.
Ray enjoyed many, many hobbies which he shared with his wife. Camping, skiing, skating, working on cars, reading, bicycling, golfing, beekeeping, and sailing. He and his wife spent many summers sailing Mount Hope Bay on their sailboat Megusta! He also enjoyed being involved in charitable events and volunteered at many Channel 2 Pledge nights.
Ray and Charlene built a home in Berkley and have lived there for 30 years. They shared their home with a lot of cats over the years including his personal favorites BC, Syd, Spuds, Fizzy and Tater-Pie. Not to forget their much loved dog Belle.
Ray was a member of the Shawomet Yacht Club in Dighton MA for 28 years. He enjoyed participating in work parties and was a board member in a variety of positions. He kept his sailboat at the Borden Light Marina in Fall River MA for summer sailing for 20 years.
Survivors include his lovely (always his words) wife, best friend and soulmate Charlene Broadhurst, sister Gail (& Dan) Augustino of Shrewsbury, sister and often travel partners Susan (& Mike) Baszynski of Tucson, sister-in-law Kathy (& Fred) Hopkins of Colorado, adored nieces and nephew, Aaron, Amy (& Byron), Kylee (& Steve), Mariah (& Lars), and grand nieces and nephews, Emma, Addie, Kellan, Emmett, and Brooke. He is predeceased by his mother Virginia Broadhurst (Pires) and father Raymond Broadhurst of Acushnet and Hobe Sound Florida. Ray leaves behind many, many wonderful, cherished lifetime friends.
Services will be scheduled in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The Covenant House of Boston or GBH Channel 2 Boston.

My love, my person, my everything. So grateful God blessed me with you. So grateful that God helps me feel in my heart the gratitude for all we have alongside the continual sadness of what I now miss. But His promise remains, we will be together again. I can't wait.

Ray lived such a full life. There are so many lessons of giving and loving that we can learn from him. A unique human being who we were so lucky to have in our family. Love, Cousin Ginny
