In Loving Memory of Raymond Gilman Carman, March 3, 1958 - January 17, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Gilman Carman who left us peacefully at the age of 66 yrs. on January 17th, 2025. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he was known for his warmth, easy-going nature, and undeniable charm. Ray had a special gift of making everyone around him feel welcome, often lightening the mood with a joke or a witty remark that brought smiles and laughter to any room.
Throughout his life, Ray found joy in the simplest things. He loved nothing more than basking in the sun, soaking up the warmth of the outdoors whether it was a quiet moment in his backyard or an adventurous trip to a new place. He believed that the best moments in life were spent outdoors, surrounded by nature and the people he loved.
A gifted cook and baker, he took great pride in the time spent in the kitchen with his family, especially when it came to preparing his famous peach pie and perfectly cooked steak. His love for sharing a meal was matched only by his joy in the company of those gathered around the table.
Professionally, Ray was a skilled tradesman with a vast knowledge of construction. His expertise led him to oversee numerous projects across the country, where his ability to build and fix anything earned him the admiration of colleagues and friends alike. In his later years, he returned to his roots, dedicating his time to supporting his community and helping family and friends with home projects. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, always ready with a tool in hand and a solution to every problem.
Above all, Ray was a man of deep integrity, generosity, and love. He taught those around him the importance of laughter, hard work, and cherishing time spent with loved ones. His presence will be greatly missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the memories and the many lives he touched.
Ray is predeceased by his father Herbert Carman, by his mother Mary I. (Noonan) Carman, by his sister Janette Matheny, and a nephew Samuel Kapusta.
Ray is survived by his children Chelsea Carman, Brigham Carman, Megan K. (Mapanao) Loresto, Lucine M. (Mapanao) Smith, and by his sister JoAnn Kapusta. Also survived by a grandson AJ Loresto Morris, and by a granddaughter on the way. Also, by one niece, Danika (Will) Raup, and by one nephew Stephan (Sarabeth) Kapusta. Ray is also survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Babcock Funeral Home, 19 Pulver Avenue, Ravena, on Saturday February 1, 2025, at 4pm. Calling hours will take place prior to the service from 3 pm to 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Ray can be made to the Grace Chapel, 2488 Rte 9W, Ravena, NY 12143 or to the Catskill Canine Rescue, PO Box 383, Hannacroix, NY 12087.
