Raymond Coffin
(12 May 1927- 21 April 2024).
Loving husband, veteran, the best father ever to Logan and countless other four-legged friends over the years, loved by all who met him, and friend of Bill W for over 60 years. Ray was a proud native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and the only child of Margaret (Walsh) Coffin who preceded Ray in passing.
Ray's gentleness and generosity were legendary. He loved to share stories from his colorful past with friends and family. Drafted into the US Army in 1950, he served as a frontline combat medic in the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, and Combat Medic Badge. Several years ago, he reconnected with his brothers in arms from the 45th Infantry Division, and he's no doubt sharing stories with many now in the hereafter.
As co-owner, manager, and operater of Nashoba Travel in Ayer for 41 years, Ray traveled the world far and wide, from Jamaica to Japan, and loved sharing his experiences with friends. Ray also filled in as a boxing sportswriter and was a dedicated Patriots season ticket holder for decades, his attendance at games sidelined only by a heart condition.
Ray is survived by Mary Ann (Dickert) (Regan) Coffin, his bride of nearly 20 years, and her children from a prior marriage, John, Bridget, Carrie, and Chris, as well as grandchildren Hannah, Liam, Michael, Kaitlyn, Amelia, and Marshall. He also leaves behind countless close friends, too numerous to list by name but all equally loved.
A wake to celebrate Ray will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, at The Immaculate Conception Church from noon to 2 PM, followed by a funeral Mass and reception. In lieu of flowers, we ask friends to donate in Ray's name to the ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society, the American Diabetes Association, or the Wounded Warrior Project, all causes close to his heart. Arrangements by the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, 978-452-6361. Please find us on Facebook or visit www.MahoneyFuneralHome.com to leave the family a message of condolence at any time.

I have known Ray through out my life as a friend and fellow employee. He was and is unchanged as one of the nicest people I´ve had the pleasure to know and work for.Ray had immeasurable patience working in the travel industry and always wanted his booking to be enjoyable. He had a great way of listening to you and making you feel better. I can remember the first time I had to wash all the windows in the travel agency, but three hours later Ray smiled and gave me the thumbs up! It meant the world to me at twelve years old. My Grandfather didn´t believe it took three hours to clean the windows. Ray said, " Lester, I watched him nonstop clean the windows inside and out." I got paid for three hours! I´m pretty sure many other people have recollections of Ray being a hero!

I am grateful for knowing Ray - a positive, loving, and generous man. There was always a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Rest in peace.
