Raymond Costello Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes – MacDonald Chapel - Howell on Feb. 20, 2025.
Raymond Costello, Jr., cherished husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, godfather, and friend, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 59 surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 12, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan, to Raymond Sr. and the late Shirley Ann Costello, Ray was a beacon of love and humor in the lives of all who knew him.
Ray's life was one of dedication and joy. On New Year's Day of 2011, he married his beloved wife, Jane Marie Costello, and together they shared a life full of laughter and love. Ray was a proud father to John (Shakyra), Sarah (Nick), and Noah, and he cherished every moment he spent with his grandchildren Anya, Leia, Luke, Olivia, and Aurora. His role as a grandfather was one he embraced with every ounce of his generous spirit, always ready to play and share in their adventures.
Survived by his close-knit family, including his father Raymond Costello, Sr. (Bonnie), his brother Ronald (Cindy), and his niece Mary (Justin), Ray's sense of family extended to his aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces, who all felt the warmth of his loving presence.
Professionally, Ray dedicated 25 years of his life as a crane operator for the OE Local 324, where his skill and work ethic were unmatched. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his involvement in his community, where he was an active member of the Howell Elks. Ray served with distinction as a Trustee for two years, bringing his characteristic humor and kindness to all his endeavors within the organization.
Ray's interests and hobbies were as varied as they were passionate. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and excitement in hunting, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and friends. In the kitchen, he was a maestro, cooking up delights for family gatherings, infusing each meal with his love and generosity. His playful spirit shone brightly when he was with his grandbabies, who adored their fun-loving "Papa."
The casino was a favorite destination for Ray, where he enjoyed the thrill of playing Keno, testing his luck and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow players. At home, he was often found deeply engrossed in a challenging game of sudoku or Wordscapes. Card games were another of Ray's joys, with poker and Euchre being among his favorites. His sharp mind and competitive spirit made each game an event to remember. As a true Michigander, Ray was a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions. He absolutely loved watching them play during football season and cheering them on through each game.
Ray was known for his loving heart, his funny anecdotes, and his generous nature. He lit up rooms with his smile and was always ready with a joke to lift the spirits of those around him. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and selfless giving-a legacy that will live on in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. While his passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, the memories of his love and laughter will forever be a source of comfort and joy to his family and friends.
Visitation will be held for Raymond from 3-7pm on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel, 315 N. Michigan Ave., Howell. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 12pm with visitation beginning at 10am until time of service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Raymond's life and legacy.
