Raymond A Dietz Jr, born 4/20/42, age 80, passed away February 28th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond A Dietz Sr, and Matilda Dietz. Ray was the youngest of his siblings, Gertrude Wocher, Ellen Mae Ochel, and James Thornton, and many nieces and nephews, including special nephew, friend and golfing pal George Bode. Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sherry (nee Stahley). He is also survived by his children, Carrie (Scott) Smith, Raymond A "Butch" Dietz III, and Laura (Jerry) Walters, and six grandchildren: Sarah (Ray), Maria (Rob), Scott "Robby" (Julie), Anna, Amanda and Nicole, and 6 great grandchildren.
Ray was raised in North College Hill and attended St Margaret Mary Elementary and Roger Bacon High School. He spent his early years outside playing baseball with neighborhood friends. In high school, Ray looked forward to dancing the jitterbug to Chuck Berry tunes at dances with Sherry. They married in 1962.
A chemical engineer, Ray earned a BS from the University of Cincinnati School of Engineering. Ray was the owner of Meters & Controls Company for 34 years. Golf and camaraderie of his golfing buddies with his passion. He was pretty good, too! Other hobbies included coaching his son's little league baseball team for 7 years and following "The Big Red Machine" during the 70s. An expert at corny jokes and one-liners, a witty response or a quick retort wouldn't stop him in his tracks. The Dietz family of five lived for Myrtle Beach vacations and Natural Bridge weekend hiking trips. In his later years macular degeneration robbed Ray of good vision, yet he successfully tackled this and other big life challenges, and was a creative problem solver.
Visitation is at St. Ann Church in Groesbeck, Cincinnati, Monday, March 6th at 11am; the funeral follows at noon, and the burial at Arlington Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, or you may wish to assist the family of Bret Schulte, a nephew of the Dietz family, in paying for medical care for his serious illness. Dear Sherry ( and family ), I am so sorry for your loss of a wonderful husband and Father. I have many fond memories of our days of growing teenagers and of the years to follow. I loved seeing you and Ray in Church over the years. You can be proud of your years together and the life you made together and for your children and Grandchildren. May God grant you the peace and strength to get through this very sad and hard time. You are and have been in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you. Susan Dunaway

I remember Ray from the chemical engineering program at UC in the late 1960s, early 1970s. There was a group of us working our way through the ChE BS degree program. He was a nice guy, and a great sales engineer. Rest in Peace Ray.

Carrie and family, I will miss your dad, grandpa, great grandpa and my neighbor dearly. I loved our mailbox chats. Ray always brought a smile to my face with his jokes and stories.
