Raymond King Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yeosock Funeral Home - Plains on Dec. 26, 2025.
Raymond B. King, of Edwardsville, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital.

Born on November 21, 1941, Ray was the son of the late Raymond King and Georgiana King Davis. He was a graduate of Hanover Area High School, where he was active in football, wrestling, and baseball.

Ray was employed by BP Oil, Stegmeier Brewing, and the United States Postal Service, from which he retired. He also dedicated nearly 50 years of service to the Edwardsville Fire Department. Ray began his firefighting career in 1964, became Assistant Chief in 1975, Deputy Chief in 1976, and Chief in 1988. He served as Fire Chief until his retirement in 2015. Throughout his years of service, Ray was deeply respected for his commitment to the community and was always willing to go above and beyond to help others.

Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Jean Lukachik; his daughter, Karen Mullery and her husband Gary of Edwardsville; and his son, Ray Jr., and his wife Cheryl of Lehman. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Charlene King; several nephews and a niece.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Marion (King) Walp, and her husband Kirt; his sister, Marjorie (King) Ichter; his brother, Robert King; and his brother-in-law, Steve Lukachik and sister-in-law, Sara Lukachik.

Ray's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ahamed Shamsedeen and his staff for their wonderful care over the years. Special thanks are also extended to Allied Services, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA, including the second- and fourth-floor nurses and aides, rehabilitation personnel, and staff members too numerous to mention, for the care, love, and comfort shown during Ray's time there. The family also expresses deep gratitude to the ICU staff at Geisinger for making Ray's final days as peaceful and comfortable as possible.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family, with a blessing service to be performed by the Reverend James Quinn, a lifelong friend of the family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Yeosock Funeral Home, Plains.
