Raymond D. Layer, born on December 8, 1950, passed away on February 16, 2026. Raymond will be remembered not only for his character but also for the love he shared with family and friends.
Ray will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his warm heart, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for good food, classic movies, and music from the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Ray faced physical challenges throughout his life, but he never allowed them to define him or limit his joy. He lived life to the fullest in his own way, embracing every opportunity to experience happiness and connection. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, coin and stamp collecting. His determination and resilience were an inspiration to those who knew him, reminding others that a full life is measured not by limitations, but by love and spirit.
Above all, Ray loved his family. They were his greatest source of pride, laughter, and love, and he cherished the time he spent with them. Those who knew him will remember his kindness and the way he made people feel welcomed just by being himself. Ray’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and the moments that remind us to appreciate the small joys in life.
Ray is survived by his three devoted sisters: Diane Fuller, Barbara (Don Lieske II) Layer, and Mary (Kevin) Eubanks. He also leaves behind a loving group of nieces, including Erin Fuller, Katie (Brian) Boehme, and Allison Eubanks. His family is further blessed by great-nieces Madison Fuller and Sloane Boehme, as well as great-nephews Owen Caby and Holden Boehme. In addition, he is survived by niece-in-law Taya Shears-Fuller and a host of other extended family members and friends who are mourning his loss.
He was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Layer, his mother, Jacqueline Layer, and his nephew, Michael Fuller. These relationships shaped Raymond profoundly, and he carried their memories with him through his life.
A graveside service will be held on February 20, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at Oak Grove Memorial Mausoleum, located at 7800 St Charles Rock Rd in St. Louis, Missouri, with the service concluding at 11:00 AM.
