Raymond John Lindhorst, 75, of Kingston, New York, passed away on December 16, 2025. He died peacefully after a short yet courageous battle.

Raymond was born on June 15, 1950, in Kingston, New York, to Gloria and Raymond Lindhorst. A proud lifelong resident and athlete, he graduated from Kingston High School in 1968 before attending Ulster County Community College (UCCC). He graduated from UCCC in 1970, where he was a standout player on the basketball team for two years. Raymond continued his education and athletic career at Husson College in Bangor Maine, where his talent truly shone; he became a dominant force on the court, setting numerous school records for rebounding that cemented his legacy in the college's sports history.

Raymond was a man dedicated to both his work and his community. He was a loyal employee of IBM for 34 years. Beyond his corporate career, he devoted much of his life to public service in the Hudson Valley. He served as a part-time officer for the Town of Lloyd Police Department, a dispatcher for both the City of Kingston Fire Department and County 911, he was a Lieutenant for the Rapid Hose Volunteer Fire Company and a New York State Certified First Responder. His love for sports extended well past his playing days. You could see Raymond "Buck" all summer long at different softball fields across the area, where he was a fixture behind the plate umpiring games. He was a devout fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, and an avid golfer. A dedicated member of the "Thursday Night Hackers League," Raymond was known for his generosity and spirit, often stepping behind the bar after a round to fill up beers for anyone staying for a cocktail. Raymond's favorite time of year was late February into March, when he would spend five weeks in Aruba. For over 35 years, he looked forward to this annual tradition, eager to play golf with his best friend Mike Sass in the warm sun and catch up with the many friends he had made on the island over the decades.

Raymond was a devoted father to Brian Lindhorst and his spouse Mary Kay, Michael Lindhorst and his spouse Jessica, Joel, and Jillian. He was the cherished grandfather of Mannon and Cade Lindhorst, Reina, Giana and Lara Lindhorst, Carter and BJ Witte. He is also survived by his brother, Robert "Stick" Lindhorst and his spouse Cathy; his sister, Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gloria and Raymond.

We would also like to thank all of his close friends who visited him regularly throughout these past 3 weeks. Your love and support meant the world to him as he battled every day. The family can't thank you enough.

Raymond was the type of person who would do anything for anybody and be remembered by his generosity, out going smile and personality and especially his big hugs. In this time of need, the family asks you as friends to think about making a charitable donation in Raymond's name to the CAPS Fund Inc., an organization he held close to his heart and supported every year. Raymond will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy-of service to his community, record-breaking rebounds, and laughter shared over a cold beer-will live on.

My family lived next door to his family for years. They were all great kids, and I am sad to read of his passing.
