Obituary of Raymond P. Meehan III
Raymond (Ray) Patrick Meehan III of Swedesboro, formerly of Blackwood, NJ, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on December 2, 2023.
Legacy
Ray was 68 and was the beloved son of Raymond P. Meehan Jr. and Elizabeth Anne Meehan nee Whiteman (d. 1978) and stepson of Joanne Meehan. Ray is survived by and will be missed by his father, stepmother, and three sisters, Anne E. Lubner, Eileen M. Ziegler and Rosemary (Ro) C. Mansfield, and brothers-in-law Charles Lubner, Joseph Ziegler and Michael Mansfield, and nieces Cara, Vanessa, Sara, Lauren, Rebecca and Linda, and nephews Ryan and Matthew.
Ray graduated from Highland High School in Blackwood, NJ in 1973. Anyone who knew Ray was impressed by his accomplishments as a guitarist, a songwriter, and in recent years, a pianist. He played lead guitar in the band Silverback, and gave many impromptu performances for family and friends. He began his musical journey on the accordion at the age of 10, then took up guitar as a teen, passing an audition to study with a prestigious guitar teacher in Philadelphia. He played many genres of music, and was truly gifted. Aside from his passion for music, Ray enjoyed reading books about history, solving various word and sudoku puzzles, and watching movies and Jeopardy. He was a fount of knowledge and impossible to beat in many trivia games! Ray previously worked as a cook at Pat's Place in Pennsauken and later at Dominic's Tavern in Bellmawr. He was a quiet, kind, and humble man with a wonderful, witty sense of humor.

Ray used to play his instruments in his room as he was growing up. He played some of the Allman Brothers music, who I had not heard of before Ray. One day he played In Memory of Elisabeth Reed, my favorite. Ray knew how to play many instruments, one of them was the accordion. Not many people knew that.

Ray was my best friend. I met Ray
at Highland High after I moved to
Blackwood in 1972. We both loved
music and not much else. One
thing Ray showed me was that
you could set goals and achieve
them. We played in bands and
met many talented musicians.
Ray could play anything. Rock,
Soul, Classical, Jazz, Bluegrass,
and he could shred even before
it was invented! Heaven now has
not only a great guitarist but one
of the kindest friends I'll ever
know

Ray was a dear friend. Spent several years as a teen growing up with Ray and my cousin Mark. Just simply living life day to day. Ray had a great heart , laid back , and a fantastic guitar player.
My brother' .... you were part of the gang growing up. I love ya Ray. Your with Jesus now. Rest easy bro'.
