Raymond Wilson, age 90 of Mentor, passed away October 29th at Maple Ridge Senior Living in Willoughby.
He was born November 21, 1934 in Carolina, West Virginia to the late Chester Clay Wilson and Fannie Opal (Byard) Wilson.
After graduating from Monongah High School, Ray served his country as an Airman 1st Class, Radio and Communications Specialist in the United States Airforce from 1953 – 1957. After his discharge, he moved to Cleveland and was employed by Lincoln Electric as a Chemist in the Laboratory, retiring in 1996. He worked part-time at Sears, then joined the Mentor Fire Department in 1968 serving out of Station #4, retiring in 1993 as a Lieutenant. He was a proud 61 year member of Willoughby Lodge #302/Temple Lodge #28; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland; Al Koran Shrine, where he was a two-time Past President of Eagle Shrine Club in Lake and Geauga Counties; and a member of Painesville Elks Lodge #549. Ray was an active member of First Church, Congregational in Painesville, and volunteered with Lake County Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed golfing and coaching his daughter's softball teams.
He is survived by his wife Katherine "Kay" (Carlson) Wilson, daughters Cindy (Thomas) Smith, Deborah (Michael) Marino, and Susan (Duane Chornobay) Bratton; sons Scott Bratton and Michael (Tammy) Bratton; his grandchildren Kelsey Smith, Justin (Madison) Smith, Erica (Ryan) Loney, Kristen (Derek) Whiddon, and Ryan Bratton; and great grandchildren Marlow Smith and Miles Loney, with 2 more great grandchildren expected soon. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Collacott and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his first wife Sandy in 1997, daughter Lisa Kay Wilson in 2018, and his siblings William Wilson, Thomas Wilson and Louise Cottrill.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 7th from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. A Masonic Service conducted by Temple Lodge #28 will be held at 7:30 PM, with a cookies and coffee reception following the service. Private burial will take place in Mentor Cemetery.

Ray was a good Mason and a good Elk. I remember going to New Orleans with his missionary group for a work party to repair homes and a church that were damaged by hurricane Katrina. He was very dedicated.
