Rayne Sirilo, 58, of Gonzales, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025. He was born on September 19,1967, in Gonzales, to his parents Ysabel (Ybarbo) and Salvador Sirilo.
Rayne, pronounced reh-neh, was an exceptional athlete in his youth. During his middle school years, his team "Los Chicanos", won 3rd place in the 8th grade division of the Jr. High Volleyball Tournament. In high school, he finished 1st place in long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 8 inches. Rayne and his team placed 2nd in the 400-meter relay race, and his glory days wouldn't be complete without mentioning his role as quarterback for the Gonzales Braves, now known as the Gonzales Apaches. He proudly graduated from Gonzales High School in 1986.
He built his career working for the city of San Marcos, he worked in many departments, but his last title was working as an operator for wastewater management. He provided a great work ethic to his department, he loved his job, and also the people he worked with.
Rayne appreciated many simple things in life. He was never one to be driving in a rush, he took his time, he enjoyed a good cruise on the road. He loved coming home to a tidy house; he took great pride in keeping everything clean. Family functions also provided a great deal of joy to Rayne; from savoring food from the delicious barbeques, to listening to Tejano music and sharing laughs with the people he loved the most. Family was extremely important to him, he cherished the time he spent with his only daughter, his "Shelbe Rae", and he appreciated when his sisters would spoil him with their home cooking, they would call him over to enjoy his favorite Mexican dish, "arroz con pollo", chicken and rice.
To say he was a Dallas Cowboy fan was an understatement, he tuned into every game and proudly wore his silver and blue. Fishing was also his favorite way to unwind. Spending time on the water, being with his brothers and celebrating a good catch made for many memorable moments. Playing a hand of luck at the Casinos was another favorite hobby of his, whether he won or lost, he came home a winner in his eyes. Lastly, he thoroughly enjoyed stand-up comedy. Watching The Kings of Comedy and Queens of Comedy always brought a smile to his face. Laughter was always the best kind of medicine.
Rayne put others before himself, he cared deeply for his family and friends, and they could always count on him to be there for them. His generosity and humor are among the many traits that made him so favored by many. His faith accompanied him throughout his life, blessing after blessing, he was thankful for the life he lived. God welcomed him into his eternal home, and his family finds comfort in knowing that he is at peace.
He is survived by his daughter Shelbe Gonzales, his mother Ysabel Ybarbo Johnson, his brothers Alfonso Sirilo (Janie), Alonzo Sirilo (Kristina), Lee Anthony Sirilo (Faye), and Amarico Sirilo along with his sisters Lisa Ann Johnson, Lou Ann Johnson, Stephanie Lynn Sirilo and Tina Marie Sirilo, as well as his sister-in-law Gloria Sirilo. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Salvador Sirilo, his brother "Sam" Salvador Sirilo, Jr., and his best friend Julian Aguirre.
