Sally Sue (Neubauer) Glass, 88, of Gonzales, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025. She was born February 13, 1937 in Gonzales to Carl Douglas and Annabelle Livingston Neubauer. Sally was adopted and raised by her aunt and uncle, Ben (Spunky) and Lena Davis. Sally married the love of her life, Samuel Edward Glass on December 21, 1956 in the Gonzales First Baptist Church. Sam and Sally enjoyed 63 wonderful years together before Sam's passing in 2020.
Sally was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and faithful servant to her community. Her life was a testament to generosity and steadfast dedication. Sally lived her life with a spirit full of adventure and compassion. She had a passion for traveling the world. Sally also cherished moments of simple connection. She loved catching up with friends and family over a hot cup of coffee, talking about "what's going on in the world."
As a lifelong educator, Sally dedicated more than three decades to teaching and school counseling, serving from 1959 to 1991 in Navasota, Smiley, and Gonzales ISDs. She was deeply committed to helping young people find their path, especially the students of Gonzales High School. She worked tirelessly to support their pursuit of college scholarships and believed wholeheartedly in each student's potential. She also served her community through the Gonzales ISD school board, acting both as a trustee and as board president, offering her leadership and heart to the district she loved.
That same generosity flowed into her service beyond the school walls. Sally cared immensely for multiple churches in Gonzales, students, and community projects, always stepping in quietly where help was needed. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Gonzales. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served on many committees within the church.
Above all, Sally's heart belonged to her husband, Sam. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership marked by devotion, teamwork, and lifelong friendship. Sally stood by Sam's side in every facet of life, including his cattle and chicken operation. She became his right hand - hauling cattle and feed, and embracing the hard work with joy simply because it meant being with him. Their love was steady, enduring, and an example to all who knew them.
Sally was a dedicated mother to her only child, Dale, whose activities she supported wholeheartedly. She never missed a game, driving him to practices and cheering proudly from the stands. She even took up golf just to share more time with him on the course.
Her pride only grew with the arrival of her only grandchild, Macy. Macy began her golf journey using Sally's set of clubs, creating a tradition across generations. Sally also passed down her love of reading, which Macy shares. Even more meaningful, Macy followed in her grandmother's footsteps professionally, becoming a teacher and school counselor as well. Sally could not have been prouder to see her granddaughter carry forward the same love for education, compassion for students, and commitment to making a difference.
Sally Sue Glass leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion, and love. Her memory will continue to inspire her family, her church, the students she championed, and all who were blessed by her generosity. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Sally Sue Glass is survived by her family, son, Dale Steen Glass and wife, Ginger of Bryan, Texas, and granddaughter Macy Layne Montalvo and her husband Ryan of Victoria, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Glass, her parents, Carl Douglas and Annabelle Neubauer, and Ben and Lena Davis, her siblings, Carl Douglas Neubauer Jr., Dorothy Fay Vandergrift, Margaret Helen Walker, Duncan Neubauer, and Belle Witt.
