Rea Charles Stonier, 77, passed away August 13th, 2024 in Boise, Idaho.
Rea was born July, 16th 1947 to Theresa and Stanley S. Stonier in San Jose, California. He was the youngest of two brothers. His childhood was ideal as he enjoyed a ranch lifestyle in the hills. He loved hanging out with "the cowboys", his grandfathers homemade beer and sausage, hunting with his hounds, and chasing girls. That is until he chased down Carol Hobbs, his wife of 56 years. They met during their first years at Modesto Jr. College in 1967. In 1968, Rea and Carol married and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Seabee in Vietnam.
When he finished his enlistment, Carol and Rea moved into a little house in San Jose and Rea worked in Palo Alto as an Animal Technician. They started their family with a daughter, Rebecca, in 1972. The family later moved to San Luis Obispo for Rea to work towards finishing his degree in Agriculture. After a couple of years of school, Rea moved the family to Lund, Nevada where he was able to cowboy on a ranch for about a year. In 1976, the family settled down and bought a home in Round Mountain, Nevada. Rea started as a drill helper and haul truck driver and worked his way up to management for the local gold mine, where he was employed for 20 years. In 1979, a son, Stanley, was born to complete the family.
Rea continued to develop his home and acreage in Nevada as he raised his family. He also continued to work, cowboy, and hunt the family ranch in California for several years. Rea enjoyed local team roping, jeep driving, swimming in the pond, Marty Robbins on the radio, and a good dog. He treasured the people around him; the Stonier house most often held large gatherings of family and friends.
Rea had the warmest smile. We hope all his family and friends join us in honoring his memory by retelling a good story about him, be it his kindness or "hold my beer" adventures. The family plans to have a private celebration of his life at the family ranch next spring. Rea is survived by his wife Carol Stonier; Daughter, Becky Way (Kelly); Son, Stanley Stonier (ElBea); Grandchildren: Garrett, Sage, Marina, Cora, Adrian, Marshall, Bastian, and Realynn.
