Reba Josephine Fishel, Murrell, Rocks was born on August 8, 1928, in Wolf Point, Montana, as the fourth of ten siblings to George Marion and Annie Fishel.
As many children of the Great Depression did, she left school after the 8th grade to work and help with needs on the farm. At age 20 she moved to Spokane, WA, where she met her first husband, Barney Murrell. After Barney's death, Reba met her second husband of 50 years, Virgil Rocks. They lived in Spokane, Missoula, MT, and eventually settled in Portland, OR, with their four children.
Along with raising her children, she maintained a vegetable garden, canned for winter, raised chickens, and worked as a waitress or cook during her working years.
Reba loved gardening and it showed! She always said she hoped to work in God's gardens in heaven. Her other loves were baking, card making, playing the organ, and her forever hobby of crocheting. She crocheted 750 hats for cancer patients and a multitude of afghans, doilies, tablecloths, and baby blankets over the years. Nothing gave her more pleasure than gifting her talents to anyone and everyone, including unsuspecting new mothers on her walks through a shopping mall!
Reba is survived by her youngest sister, Carole Brady, her four children, Stephanie Blackman, Richard Murrell (Sandy), David Rocks (Jody), Ora Dee Rocks, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Mt. Scott Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 21, from Noon until 7:00 p.m. with a graveside service at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, August 22, at 3:00 p.m. They are requesting attendees to arrive at 2:45 p.m. at their main location, Gate 9. It's at the top of the hill and is a large pink toned building. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
