Rebecca Barr Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 21, 2024.
Dr. Rebecca A. Barr (née Barr), born May 17, 1955, passed away October 19, 2024, aged 69. She left the world much-loved.
Daughter of the late Marilyn Johnston and Dr. William Barr, Becky was born in New Orleans, moving many times in her early life amongst army bases. She and her siblings could entertain for hours with stories of their escapades and general teenaged skullduggery, and indeed many hours of laughter have been had at the memories and their retelling.
Becky obtained her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1978, and it was later that year that she married her loving and devoted husband, Andy. Together they built their own veterinary practice in Shawano, WI, and operated it for many years to the benefit of thousands of animals, large and small. Becky was instrumental in establishing the Shawano County Humane Society and could reliably be found donating her time and her care. She and her beloved Tervurens were highly decorated in Agility; her champion Versailles and his successor Rainier won numerous titles and awards including the prestigious MACH. She is remembered by her friends and loved ones for her honesty, her love of all animals, and her kindness in working with her clients. Her curiosity was life-long.
Becky is survived by her husband, Andy, her children Wiley (Kailyn) and Emily, her grandson Malcolm, her sisters Debbie and Missy, her brother Billy, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, David.
If you knew her, or her family, you know that she was not one for prayers. Instead, please give your dogs some extra treats and a good scratch in her memory. Rest assured there are many furry friends happy to see her again. She will be missed tremendously.
Private family services were held. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Foundation of American and Wisconsin Humane Society.
