Rebecca 'Becky' Custard Obituary

Our mother, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Ann Custard, 86, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025 after a brief illness. Mom was born on September 23, 1939 in Meadville, Pa to V. Tracy and Lena Marie ‘Chick’ Moffit. She attended St. Brigid’s Catholic School and St. Agatha High School, graduating in 1957.

Mom married our father, Randal D. Custard, on April 4, 1959. Mom became a military wife when Dad enlisted in the Air Force. Mom loved traveling and while living in Germany, she was able to visit many European countries, including Russia. Mom and Dad divorced in May 1985.

Our mother was truly unique and accomplished much in her lifetime. She was the heart and soul of our family. She easily made friends, loved her family and friends fiercely, holding all close to her heart.

Mom had four careers: raising her family, working at IRS, running the Hare Store, and working at the Taylor Daily Press.

Mom had many interests and volunteered her time with many groups. She loved reading, doing genealogy with Doug, playing cards and board games, especially Rummikub, solving jigsaw puzzles with her friend, Lauren, and embroidery (until her eyesight prevented her from making those tiny stitches). She taught herself to sew and made most of hers and her daughters’ clothes.

Mom later settled down in Thrall, living with her daughter, Kathy. In the last few years, she didn’t travel as much. However, Mom did go on many drives with Kathy, or her friend, Marge, exploring the central Texas area. Mom truly cherished the times when her children and grandchildren came to visit her.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, V. Tracy Moffit and Lena Marie “Chick” Moffit, her brother Michael Moffit, his wife, Carol, and their children, Michael Jr., Marlene, and James ‘Jimmy’ Moffit, her sister, Mary Helen and her husband, John Bovard, sister-in-law, Joyce Moffit; her children’s father, Randal D. Custard, his parents, Glenn and Helen Custard, his brother Kenny, sister-in-law, Sally, their daughter, Lee Ann and her son, Joey; brother-in-law, Ernie, and niece, Beth Ann.

Mom is survived by her children, Randal J. “Randy” (Sharon), Kathy, Christina “Tina” Curtis (Rob), Brian (Rhonda), Douglas, and David (Deb); grandchildren, Matthew, Brad, Ricky (Chelsie), Sarah, Katie (Ryan), Adam (Juanita), Josh (Kaitlyn), Emmalee, and Becca; and her great-grandchildren Sylis, Colton, Skylar, Olivia, Michele and Ethan. Mom is also survived by her brother, Patrick “Pat” Moffit, his children Tracy and Marcie (Shawn), her nephew Donnie (Kimberlie), ex-sister-in-law, Janet; numerous nieces and nephews from the Custard side, her friends, Marge, Lanamay, and many others (too many to name but each and every one meant so much to her).

To all who, if only briefly, touched Mom’s life, thank you for being part of her life. Our hearts may be heavy while we grieve our loss, we will celebrate all the wonderful memories we have as Mom will always be with us in our hearts.

Visitation on Nov 5 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by Funeral Vigil with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home, Taylor. Funeral Mass on Nov 6 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Taylor, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Contributions in her honor can be made to stmarystaylor.org/msgr-lonnie-urban-memorial-fund
