Rebecca Ann Griffin was born on September 18, 1943, in Lafayette County, Mississippi, to Ulish Owens and Pauline Mitchell Owens. She faced the loss of her mother, Pauline, at just six years old. Rebecca was lovingly raised by her father, Ulish, her grandmothers, Irene Woods and Addie Owens, and later by her stepmother, Bulah Owens. These experiences shaped her into a woman of deep faith, strength, and resilience.
Rebecca graduated from Taylor High School in Taylor, Mississippi, in 1961. She later relocated to Iowa, where she built a life centered on family, faith, and service to others.
In 1964, Rebecca married David Levon Griffin, and together they welcomed a daughter, Vanessa. Later, Rebecca and her life partner, Epsie Stokes, welcomed four more children: Cynthia, Kenneth, Stephanie, and Charlotte. Her love for her children and family was boundless, and she devoted her life to creating a warm and faith-filled home.
Rebecca worked at Litton Life Support for 34 years in various roles until her retirement. She was known for her dedication and strong work ethic, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Rebecca was a devoted member of Third Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang with the Mass Choir and served faithfully as an armor bearer. She was also a proud member of Alberta King Court #12. Known for her warm heart and open arms, she lived a life grounded in God's teachings, embodying love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Rebecca's home was a sanctuary of love and care, known for its open-door policy and her willingness to feed, shelter, and comfort anyone in need. She was best known for her tender loving care (TLC), making each person who crossed her path feel special and valued. Her compassion and generosity touched countless lives, leaving an enduring legacy of kindness and selflessness.
Rebecca had a passion for fishing and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She created cherished memories with each of them, leaving a legacy of love that will endure.
Rebecca leaves to celebrate her memory her daughters, Vanessa (Dewayne) Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri, Cynthia Judson, and Stephanie Stokes of Davenport, Iowa; her siblings, Armelia Willingham of Bettendorf, Iowa, Ulysses Owens of Arizona, Addie (Emmanuel) Teye of Wisconsin, Rosie Smith, Mary Dunlap, Sharon Dunlap, and Leroy Owens, all of Davenport, Iowa; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind countless friends and extended family members who were blessed to feel her love.
She is preceded in death by her life partner, Epsie Stokes; her parents, Ulish Owens, Pauline Mitchell Owens and Bulah Owens; her beloved son, Kenneth; her daughter, Charlotte; and her siblings, Junior Lee and Anthony Owens.
Rebecca's faith-filled life, selfless love, and enduring legacy will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
