An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
"Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised." (Proverbs 31:10, 29-30)
Rebecca Ann Jaech was born October 5th, 1949, in Santa Barbara, California, the third of four children of John A. and Betty J. Reed. After John's return from the Korean war, they lived in the modest house that he built for his family. Rebecca received Christian Baptism at First Methodist Church in Santa Barbara on April 3rd, 1955. The family soon moved to San Diego, where Becky grew up and spent her life until age 44. She loved the small-town feel of San Diego and the proximity of the Pacific Ocean and its beaches.
In 1970, Becky married Richard Dinsen, also of San Diego. In 1972 they were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Anna. Becky and Richard divorced in 1980, and Rebecca raised Anna as a single mother.
Becky started her working career as an engineering trainee with the City of San Diego. Later, after successfully recovering from her own struggles with substance abuse, she achieved an Associates Degree in AODA counseling, and worked with several therapeutic practitioners in the San Diego area. It was when she contracted as a counselor at the US Navy's Recovery Center at Air Station Miramar, that she met Dale Jaech, who was also divorced and would become her second husband. They celebrated their marriage on July 31st, 1993, atop historic Point Loma, with the sun setting into the Pacific Ocean while the full moon rose over the city of San Diego. Later that year, they moved to Dale's native Wisconsin, settling on a small farm near Eau Claire, where Becky continued her work as a counselor in a youth recovery setting.
In 1998, they moved to the Portland Oregon area, Becky working in AODA treatment, and Dale as a truck driver. There, Becky was confirmed by Pastor Steven Brockdorf as a member of Reformation Lutheran Church. When the two of them persuaded Dale to study for the ministry there began a series of moves across the country: to Mankato, MN for seminary; to Port Orchard, WA for vicar training; to Hillman MI to serve a parish; to Ulen MN to serve another parish; back to Mankato; out to southern California; and then to Bishop CA, beneath the eastern Sierra mountains.
Becky made quick and dear friends in all these places and supported Dale in all his duties with insight and encouragement. But in 2004, she again assumed the role of mother, as her granddaughter Meghan came to live with them for the next nine years. Becky's Christian and motherly heart governed many of her days, as in 2014, she and Dale became caretakers of her disabled grand-niece, Casey Reed. After Casey died in 2017, they were joined by her brother Dan, who needed a supportive family setting.
In 2020, it was off again when Dale retired and they fulfilled a years'-long desire to live on the water – in a sailboat in Ft Myers FL. After a year, they returned to Oregon to live with Anna and son-in-law Jim, completing a sojourn of some 17 years that had seen many wonderful friends made, and treasured experiences.
Becky's health had been failing for some time, and her decline accelerated in '23. After three lengthy hospitalizations, two skilled nursing facilities and an assisted living stay, her body was too depleted to recover. But her spirit remained confident as she awaited the final beckoning of her Savior. Her last good day, in the care of Avamere Skilled Nursing of King City, was spent surrounded by family and enjoying phone calls from friends and family across the country. She received the Lord's Supper a final time before falling into a long sleep until she was called by her Lord to inherit the kingdom prepared for her.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Reed, her younger brother John, her older brother Dan, her niece Tishan Reed, her grand-niece Casey Reed, her sister-in-law Anna Reed, Dale's parents Howard and Vera, and his brother Dean. She is survived by her husband Dale, daughter Anna Butler (James), grandchildren Joshua and Meghan Butler, Sister Pamela Pyne, ex-husband Richard Dinsen, sister-in-law Lou Brady (Paul Stieber}, step-children Christopher Jaech (Nicole), and Heather Corte-Real (Manee), and step-grandchildren, Nichelle, Michael, and Keeton Adams, and Piolet Jaech.
Becky's family wishes to thank Pastor Brockdorf for his friendship and his spiritual care. Gratitude also goes to the staffs of Providence/St Vincent's hospital (8th & 9th patient floors), Pacific Grove Senior Living of Forest Grove, Marquis Skilled Nursing of Newberg, and especially the staff of Avamere Skilled Nursing, King City. ('When did we see You sick, and come to You?' "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.' Matthew 25:39,40)
We live in expectation of our joyous reunion at the resurrection when our Lord Jesus Christ will gather all His saints into the eternal mansions of heaven.
"I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes – I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!" (Job 19:25–27)
"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words." (1 Thessalonians 4:13–18)
"After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: "Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes-who are they, and where did they come from?" I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."" (Revelation 7:9–17)
