Graveside service for Mrs. Rebecca Ann Upshaw McCullin, 87, of West Monroe, LA will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00pm at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery in Spearsville, LA. Interment will follow there under the direction of Griffin Funeral home.
Becky was born September 10, 1937 in Spearsville, LA. She passed from this life to see Jesus face to face on October 11, 2024 after a lengthy illness.
She was the youngest child of Claude and Georgia (Seale) Upshaw. Her 6 sisters and 1 brother were her best friends for all of their lives. To be in their company when they were together can only be described as pure joy. As the last survivor of her childhood family, she missed them so much and now they are enjoying a homecoming celebration in heaven.
She met her dear husband Mack McCullin while both were attending LA Tech and they married September 10, 1957 on her 20th birthday. Together they moved to Bryan, TX for Mack to complete his degree in Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M. She had worked in the college library while attending LA Tech and that continued during their years spent at A&M.
They later returned to Louisiana and settled in Monroe. She spent several years as a full time mother and homemaker, later teaching Preschool at College Place Baptist Church. But the library was what she always loved. She was an avid reader and spent her leisure time reading a good book or studying her Bible. She returned to work at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, eventually becoming the Children's Librarian at the main branch. That was such a perfect fit for her! She ended her work life at the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home where she served as their receptionist and later established a library there. She happily retired when she learned she would become a grandmother, eager to devote herself to that new role.
She loved the Lord and loved her church - serving as a Sunday School teacher, missions leader, choir member or in whatever capacity where she could be of service. She was a prayer warrior! She always had a smile on her face and an encouraging word for everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Mack McCullin. She is survived by her son, Cregg (Shelley) McCullin of West Monroe, LA; daughter, Julie (Mark) Walden of Tyler, TX ; and her only grandson, Jordan Walden of Exmouth, Western Australia.
The family would like to thank the staff of Savannah Grand Memory Care Facility and La Hospice and Palliative Care and those that helped care for our wonderful mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.org).
