Janice "Jan" Jones Querbes passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, in her hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and exemplified the qualities of grace, refinement, and compassion throughout her life. She was ever a kind hearted person that had a wonderful smile for anyone.
Jan was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. She was active in numerous civic and cultural organizations, serving on the boards of the Shreveport Opera, Providence House and The Baton Rouge Symphony League. She was also a member of the Junior League of Shreveport and contributed her time and talents to the Red River Revel. In addition, she was affiliated with the Corner the Market and El Mundo stock syndicates. She was a member of The Shreveport Club, City Club of Baton Rouge, The Baton Rouge Country Club and The Cotillion Club.
Guided by faith throughout her life, she was a devout Catholic and honored to be a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher.
Jan and her late husband, Jay, shared a love of travel and adventure. She was richly cultured and delighted in telling stores of those experiences. At one point, they attended the Kentucky Derby 20 years in a row and numerous thoroughbred races throughout the world. A few memorable places were Hong Kong, all of Europe and Prague.
She found great joy in painting and leaves behind a treasured collection of her work. She also possessed a deep appreciation for flowers and gardening, and her love of beautiful floral arrangements was evident in her home and daily life.
Jan cherished her many long-standing friendships and enjoyed a vibrant social life filled with luncheons, dinners, and social gatherings. She had beautiful friendships in her hometown as well as from her years living in Baton Rouge and time spent in St. Francisville. She was known for throwing elaborate and beautiful parties and bringing people together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearle Montgomery Jones and Harold Lamnar Jones, and by her beloved husband of thirty-one years, Justin Ricou Querbes III.
She is survived by her son, Edwin Robson Jenkins, and his wife, Heather B. Jenkins; her sister Kathleen Louise Jones, her stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Kevin James Briley, and Elizabeth and William John Entenmann; grandchildren, Camille Jenkins Glotz and her husband, Tyler Emerson Glotz, Edwin Robson Jenkins Jr., Andrew Robinson Briley, Stewart James Briley, Katherine Ann Andreeff, and Louise Querbes Andreeff, Morgan Taylor Thomas, Lydia Claire Phenald; and great-grandchildren, James Emerson Glotz, Colette Caroline Glotz, and Bridger Lee Glotz.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Robson Jenkins Jr., Tyler Glotz, Andrew Robinson Briley, Stewart James Briley, Kevin James Briley, and William John Entenmann.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the people & staff who assisted and cared for Jan. Special thanks to Willie Smith, Sherri Smith, the staffs of The Oaks and St. Joeseph Hospice.
