Rebecca "Becky" Showalter (born Rebecca McManus), Sherman High School Class of '71, passed away in her sleep on September 14th, 2025, following a battle with colon cancer. She was born on November 29, 1953, to Jack McManus and Carol Leach and raised in Sherman, TX. Following graduation from Sherman High School, Becky attended Stephen F. Austin University, was inducted into the Delta Zeta Sorority, and graduated in 1975 with a degree in Political Science. After working in advertising and radio for five years in Dallas, she relocated to Seattle, WA, and got a job as a commercial lender. Within her first two years in Seattle, she met her husband, Steve Showalter, and they married on September 11, 1982. Becky remained in Seattle for almost four decades. She raised two children, worked her way up in a regional Community Bible Study organization to become teaching director, and she remained a lifelong football fan. In 2020, she chose to retire with Steve back to her hometown of Sherman. While there, she remained active in local ministry. Her initial cancer diagnosis came in April 2021, and Becky kept steadfast to her passion of building community and spreading faith, even as her cancer grew aggressively.
She is survived by her younger sister, Liz McManus; her husband, Steve Showalter, and their two children, Lexie Showalter and Ross Showalter. She will join her father, Jack McManus, in heaven, as well as many other family members whom she has missed every day while on this earth.
