General Redding Cox, Jr. 77, passed away peacefully March 18, 2025, at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola after a brief illness. He was born on September 6, 1947. He was a native of Okaloosa County and attended Laurel Hill High School. He is survived by his three children; son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Angelique, son, Kevin and daughter, Candace; two brothers, Morris and James; three sisters, Bonnie, Clydie and Marie; 7 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, General Redding Cox and mother, Agnes Cox; two brothers, Charles and John "Donnie" Cox; and one sister, Shelby.
General Cox served in the Army during the Vietnam War and developed many construction and base maintenance support skills. After his tour of duty, he came home and served as the Public Works Director for the City of Crestview, Florida for 23 years. He was a great asset to The City of Crestview because of his well-rounded knowledge gained in his military service until his city retirement July 11, 2007. General Cox always enjoyed large families getting together and having feasts with his special Boston Butts and Ribs recipes. He will be missed by so many as he always offered a helping hand.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 26th 2025 from 11:00-12:00pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home with the funeral service starting at 12:00pm with Gary Winstead officiating. Interment will follow at Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill, Florida.
