Redues Weldon Newman, the 5th child of 10, was born May 3, 1943, to Weldon and Enolia Newman in Ben Franklin, Texas. The family lived in various towns before settling in Lubbock, Texas. Through good and bad, the family developed a close bond. Growing up, some of the key things he learned were the value of a dollar, when to be thrifty, and the importance of education. He received his high school diploma from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School of Lubbock in 1964. He would later receive an Associate of Arts degree from Miami Dade College in business.
Shortly after graduating, Redues joined the United States Air Force in July 1964 attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant and retiring in 1984. During his service he received the Joint Service Commendation Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
After retirement, Redues went on to work for Florida Power & Light from 1984 until retiring in 1999 as a senior plant technician. During this period Florida Power & Light won the prestigious Deming Prize and was the first non-Japanese company to win the award.

From a young age, Redues enjoyed many sports, but his absolute favorite was golf. During his youth he would work as a caddy and play when he could. As an adult, he was very skilled. Wherever he went he would ALWAYS keep a golf club handy, practicing his swing and grip. He enjoyed playing, watching, and even making his own clubs. When out and about, if he ever saw a set of golf clubs for sale, he would stop and take a look.

During the 90's, Redues re-discovered his faith in the Lord and dedicated himself to Bible study. His favorite books being Romans and Corinthians. He would emphasize Romans 10:9 as one of the most important verses in the Bible.

As time continued, though his body began to fail and various illnesses took hold, Redues continued to press on keeping faith.

On November 8, 2025, Redues Weldon Newman passed away with his son Jamaal by his side.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father: Enolia and Weldon Newman; his brothers: Jessie Coleman (Charlie Mae), Joe Newman (Ruthie), Sammy Newman, Lester Newman (Sharon); sisters: Bobbie Adams (Glen), Delores Ann Dickson (Damon); first wife Tokie.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his son Jamaal Newman, second wife Aree Newman, stepson Poon Suanpong, stepdaughter, Sumarkae Peppard (Larry), brothers: James Newman, Allen Newman (Helen), Stan Newman, brother-in-law Glenn "Red" Adams, sister-in-law Ruthie Newman, friend, Joan Gordon, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
