Reed W Saunders, 83, of South Jordan Utah, passed away on January 13, 2025 after a very quick journey with cancer.
Born on May 26, 1941, in Logan, Utah to Gilbert and Cary Saunders. He was the 5th of nine children. He graduated from South Cache High School in 1959 and then attended Utah State University. He met his sweetheart, Bobbi, when he was only 15 and they married years later in the Logan LDS temple on March 8, 1963. Reed and Bobbi had 4 children.
Reed served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the East Central States mission from 1960-1962. He loved serving as a missionary. Reed always held callings in the church and served in bishoprics, including as a bishop, on the high council, as stake executive secretary, and served many years with the youth of the church. In his later years, he and his sweet companion served as missionaries at the West Ridge Academy, in the branch presidency in the River Crest Branch, and served for 5 years in the FamilySearch Library. He also served as an ordinance worker and shift coordinator in the Jordan River Temple.
He had a successful career in the finance industry and later as the business office manager of accounts receivable for IHC hospitals.
He enjoyed many hobbies but was an avid woodworker, creating numerous pieces of furniture, pens, rocking horses, and many beautiful frames. He was an enthusiastic reader and loved to learn.
Reed is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Barbara (Bobbi) Cook Saunders; his daughters, Lisa Lake (Greg Lake); Shelly Peters (Craig Peters); 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Karma Waite and Darla Loveland, and 2 brothers, Steven Saunders and David Saunders. He is preceded in death by brothers Gilbert Lloyd Saunders and Jack Saunders, and sisters LaDon Lyle and Karren Bassett. He also lost 2 adult children too early, Holly Saunders McKell and Daniel Reed Saunders. They are having a happy reunion.
Reed loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren beyond measure. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was completely devoted to following the Savior.
Services will be held at River 6th ward building, 11473 South Chapel View Drive, South Jordan, Utah, with a viewing Friday evening, January 17 from 6:00-8:00pm and Funeral services January 18 starting with a viewing from 9:30 and service at 11:00. Dear Bobbi, I just found out about Reed's passing a week ago or so. I am saddened by this news. I was pleased to read in his obituary that you two met when you were 15! And married for nearly 62 years! That is awesome. Bonnie and I were 15 as well, so I know we are are in good company with you and Reed. Reed always had that big smile of his on his face and it was warm, kind, and disarming. He always made a person feel welcome and comfortable, and I appreciated our visits in your home. His testimony of the gospel was and example to all. Our sincerest condolences to you and your family. With heartfelt sympathy, Love, faith and prayers.
