Reedal Ogilvie Jr., age 92, a resident of Clawson since 1962, and formerly of Royal Oak, passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2025.
Reedal was born on September 21, 1932, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Reedal Ogilvie Sr. and Mary (née Young) Ogilvie. Due to his family's frequent moves, his early education took him across the country-grade school in Alexandria, Minnesota, middle school in Fargo, North Dakota, and high school at Grayslake High School in Grayslake, Illinois.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Reedal served from 1952 to 1956, spending much of his time stationed in Greenland. After his service, he met the love of his life, LaVonne Marie Stroeh, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The two were married on September 13, 1959, in Luverne, Minnesota, and began their life together in the Midwest.
In 1960, Reedal returned to school in Illinois to earn his teaching certificate. He went on to teach industrial arts for two years at Kimball High School in Royal Oak. Ultimately, he found his true calling working for Ford Motor Company as a research technician, a career he enjoyed until his retirement in 1995.
Reedal was known for his mechanical aptitude and was always ready to lend a hand to friends and family with their vehicles. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and a hands-on Cub Scout leader during his children's youth. Together with his family, he created a lifetime of memories camping across the United States, visiting landmarks and tourist attractions, and always making time to explore.
A man of faith, Reedal was a longtime member of Big Beaver United Methodist Church in Troy.
Reedal is survived by his wife, LaVonne Ogilvie; children, Timothy (Laurie) Ogilvie, Mark (Jason Amason) Ogilvie, Daniel (Catherine) Ogilvie, and Susan (Steven) Clark; grandchildren, Spencer Ogilvie, Simon Ogilvie, Sidney Ogilvie, Sophie (Ben) Twohy, Evan Ogilvie, Carly Ogilvie, Trevor Ogilvie, Landon Ogilvie, Callie Ogilvie, Henry Clark, and Lucy Clark; and great-grandson, Dawson Twohy. He is also survived by his siblings, Stephen (Valerie) Ogilvie and Kathleen Kleveland.
Reedal was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley (Philip) Jenkins; their daughters, Rachel, Sarah, and Rebecca; and his brother-in-law, Charles Kleveland.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, Clawson, Michigan 48017. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at the same location.
