Refugio Loza Garcia (Cookie) died on Monday July 21, 2014 peacefully at his home surrounded by all his loved ones. After fighting for 6 weeks to recuperate from a stroke, God needed an angel up in heaven and took him from us. Cookie was born on 4/15/42 in Mexticacan, Jalisco, Mexico. His parents were Jose and Matiana Garcia. They moved to California in the middle 1950's. As a young boy Cookie lived in Pescadero and attended Pescadero High School. From there he moved to Davenport, then to Santa Cruz and finally made his home in Watsonville. Cookie was retired from working for many years at Granite Construction, one of his greatest joys was working on and restoring classic cars. He was so proud of his cars, he loved to enter them in the car shows and every year he would enter his cars in the Watsonville parade. Cookie loved to spend a lot of his time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He loved getting together and spending time with his two brothers. Cookie was preceded in death by his parents; Jose and Matiana and brothers; Arthur and Daniel Garcia. He is survived by his wife; Gloria Garcia, four sons and daughter-in-laws; Paulino (Christina) Garcia, Refugio Jr. (Erica) Garcia, Jose Alfredo (Darci) Garcia, and Guadalupe (Kelly) Garcia and two daughters and son-in-law; Teresa (Rolando) Donoso and Tanya Martin, one step daughter; Carmen Puga, four step sons; Pedro and Carlos Garcia, and Roberto and Francisco Hernandez Two brothers; Jose (Leticia) Garcia and David Garcia, four sisters; Maria (Ramon)Garcia, Dolores (Ramon) Sandoval, Juanita (Enrique) Carrasco, Frances (Jesus)Tovar. Twelve grandchildren and 8 step grandchildren, and many aunts and uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 5-9 p.m. with recitation of Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church on Monday, July 28th at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
