Refugio "Cuco" Ramos

Refugio "Cuco" Ramos, age 60, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
Survived by his wife of 31 years, Guillermina Ramos; children, Jeanette Ramos, Luis Ramos, Melissa (Jordan Sass) Ramos, Alberto Ramos, and Diego Ramos; siblings, Jesus (Elva) Ramos, Jose (Teresa) Ramos, Raul (Maria) Ramos, Teresa Patino, Oliva Espino, Maria (Salvador) Ramirez, Leticia Ramos, and Joel Ramos. Numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents, Refugio (Domtila) Ramos and his brother, Luis Ramos.
Refugio, known as "Cuco" was a man who left a lasting impression on every person who knew him. Born in his beloved town of Tarimoro, Guanajuato, Mexico, Cuco became a bricklayer as a teenager uniting with his brothers to support their family of 12. Then in 1979, he began his courageous journey to the United States with the American dream in mind. Using his intelligence and drive, he successfully made it come true building a beautiful life with his wife and five children in Romeoville, Illinois. A man of many talents, Cuco was an incredibly talented carpenter who actually built the beds his children sleep on and the table his family eats on, a bass player, singer, pool player, green thumb gardener, and a natural comedian who could bring an entire room to laughter even in the hardest of times. He was a science buff who spent his evenings watching documentaries about our Universe, but also the type of man who would drop everything he was doing to lend a hand. He prided himself on always doing the right thing, the first time. Beyond his role as a devoted family man, Cuco also brought the same devotion to Kurtzon Lighting as a design engineer where one could hear the passion in his voice as he discussed the ins and outs of the projects he worked on. It is the same passion in which he spoke about everything he felt strongly about. His combination of wisdom, wit, and humor was truly unique. He had a heart of gold and a soul of a warrior. He will be very, very missed.
Visitation for Refugio will be held Friday, March 24, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, IL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 205 East Jackson Street, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
