Regina Brooks Hegwood, 81, of Albany, GA, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 at Wynfield Park and Rehabilitation. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Stan Glass officiating.
Regina was a born in Moultrie, GA on October 13, 1943 to the late Gwyn Alton and Sarah Helen Brooks and is also preceded in death by her brother, Ricky Stephen Brooks. She grew up in Moultrie and graduated from Moultrie High School in 1961. She received a scholarship from Tift College in Forsyth, GA and attended there until she eloped with her high school sweetheart, Lyn Hegwood. For the next years, she was a military wife and traveled with her husband and growing family to different military instillations until moving to Albany, GA in 1970. She was a stay at home mom and homemaker until her employment with the Lee County Ledger in Leesburg, Ga & then on to the Marine Corps Logistic Base in Albany. Regina was employed there for twenty five years before retiring as a Public Affairs Specialist. She was a member of Life Christian Center International and enjoyed writing, reading, baking, family, & worship.
Survivors include her children, Shannon Hegwood Baker of Albany, GA, Mark Hegwood of Fairhope, AL, Jeff (Alyson) Hegwood of Gulf Shores, AL and Sarah “Rae” Minix of Quakertown, PA, six grandchildren, Caleb and Callie Baker of Albany, GA, Brandon Hegwood of Gulf Shores, AL, Brittany (William) Barnett of Kansas, OK, Julia Marie Hegwood of Gulf Shores, AL and Harris Ingram of Columbus, GA and two great-grandchildren, Raelyn Barnett and Hunter Barnett.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Monday before the service at Mathews Funeral Home. Those desiring may make memorials in memory of Regina to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
