Regina Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Quinn Funeral Home - Warwick on Mar. 10, 2026.
Regina H. Murphy, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Gerald T. Murphy. Born in Providence, Regina was the beloved daughter of the late Urban F. and Ethel (Quinn) O'Brien.

She is survived by her loving children, Barbara A. Murphy, Gerald T. Murphy and his wife Janet, Joan E. Dugan and her husband John, and Janice L. Atherly. Regina was the adoring grandmother of five grandchildren and the cherished great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Kay O'Brien and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved daughters, Jeanne M. Adamek and Judith E. Murphy; her son-in-law, John Atherly; and her siblings, Ethel Harrington, Elizabeth Avery, Mary McLeod, Urban O'Brien Jr., Joseph O'Brien, Paul O'Brien, and Ursula McDonald.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Regina's family was always the center of her world. After marrying her husband Gerald in 1950, the two shared 28 wonderful years of marriage before his unexpected passing in 1978. Following his loss, Regina showed remarkable strength and determination as she immediately went to work to support her family. She was employed by several local businesses, including The Big G and Kennedy Clothing Store, before beginning a career as a bank teller with Citizens Bank. Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, Regina built a successful career over 15 years, ultimately retiring as a Branch Manager. In 1991, Herb Cummings, then CEO of Citizens Bank, presented Regina with the Citizen's Bank Employee of the year award at the University Club in Providence.

Her strong work ethic and determination remain qualities that she proudly passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Regina was an avid fan of the New York Giants and rarely missed a game, even after moving to Coral Springs, Florida in 2011. A true matriarch of her family, she cherished time spent together and especially loved hosting family gatherings and holiday celebrations in her home.

Regina was a truly special woman whose warmth, strength, and devotion to her family touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her loving family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in The Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. Warwick. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home at 8:30am on Monday, March 16, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Holy Name Church, 107 Camp Street, Providence. Her burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905; OR to VITAS Hospice Care of Broward County Team 151, 1801 W Sample Rd Ste 301, Deerfield Beach, FL 33064.
